APPEAL TO THE HOUSE OF PEOPLES OF FBIH – STOP CONSTRUCTION OF mHPs
The Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Banja Luka joined the appeal for the urgent adoption of the Law on Amendments to the Law on Electricity in the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH. By sending a letter to the House of Peoples, we ask the delegates of this legislature to adopt the Law on Amendments to the Law on Electricity in FBiH as soon as possible in the same form as the House of Representatives and thus put an end to the construction of new small hydropower plants on our rivers. With this appeal, as a civil society organization, we supported the demands and appeals of locals and activists gathered in the Coalition for the Protection of Rivers of BiH, who has been fighting for over 10 years to stop the destruction of rivers by building mHPs. In the previous months and years, we had the opportunity to see the numerous harmful effects of mHPs, which contribution to the total amount of produced electricity is negligible (2.54% in 2021), while only and exclusively rich investors benefit. Vote “FOR” the law is the vote for the salvation of the rivers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
