On May 16, a conference entitled “Human Rights in the Age of Uncertainty” was held in Sarajevo, organized by the Sarajevo Open Center, which, among other things, presented the findings of the Human Rights House Banja Luka on the position and rights of human rights defenders in BiH.
Dragana Dardić from the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly pointed out that self-censorship and fear are increasingly present among activists and journalists due to the fact that their organizations or their families could suffer consequences for publicly expressing their opinions or criticism.
The conference discussed a set of restrictive laws adopted in the Republic of Srpska, as well as the passive reactions of the international community, including the Ombudsman Institution, to negative phenomena and trends in BiH, which concern violations of the rights to freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and the right to free access to information.
The conference also presented the annual Pink Report, which documents in detail the state of the rights of the LGBT+ community, especially transgender and intersex people in BiH.
The event brought together more than 60 representatives of foreign embassies, international organizations, domestic institutions, media and civil society.
