International Women’s Day for Peace and Disarmament celebrated

The Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Banja Luka and the Foundation United Women, with the help of the Medical Students’ International Committee SaMSIC, held a street action today to mark the International Women’s Day for Peace and Disarmament, which is celebrated worldwide on May 24.

The goal of this action, which was held in 12 cities across BiH, was to inform citizens about the importance of marking this day, as well as to point out that peace is the responsibility of all of us, that we must all work together to resist violence and to establish lasting peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

By marking this day, we wanted to draw attention to the role and contribution of women in peace processes, the fight against all forms of violence, the promotion of human rights and gender equality, and alternative approaches to peace – without weapons, with more dialogue.

The action was held within the Initiative Peace with Women’s Face, which was founded in 2013, brings together 13 civil society organizations from Bosnia and Herzegovina and operates on the principles of solidarity, women’s unity, and contribution to lasting peace.
