The CEDAW Committee considers that the long-term and structural absence of women from decision-making at the global level not only constitutes a serious violation of human rights, but also deprives the world of the potential of half of its population.
The Committee therefore adopted General Recommendation No. 40, which provides guidance to member states on how to achieve equal and inclusive representation of women in decision-making – both in the public and private sectors.
