Alternative CEDAW Report

In Sarajevo was presented an Alternative CEDAW Report of civil society organizations on the implementation of the so-called Women’s Convention for the period 2019-2023 which offered clear data on the state of women’s rights in terms of legislation, procedures and practices.

The alternative report provides an overview of the actual state of gender equality in Bosnia and Herzegovina and identifies obstacles in the enjoyment of women’s human rights in accordance with the provisions of the Convention. Activists from various civil society organizations from all over the country participated in the creation of the Report, and the preparation and drafting of the Report was coordinated by the organizations Rights for All, Sarajevo and the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Banja Luka. The report will be submitted to the UN CEDAW Committee where it will be discussed together with the regular periodic report of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the presentation of the report, one of the authors of the same, Prof. Dr. Amila Ždralović pointed out that each chapter of the report ends with specific recommendations, which were defined based on the analysis of the situation:

“Behind each chapter there are concrete recommendations on how to solve the observed problems and violations of rights. We will monitor whether the authorities will deal with these issues in the coming period and refer to the proposed solutions”, said Prof. Amila Ždralović.

The creation of the report was supported by the Swedish Foundation Kvinna till Kvinna.
