Regarding gender equality in the field of work, Bosnia and Herzegovina, with its 62.8 index points, is far behind the European Union, which has 81.3 index points. In addition, it is in the lowest place compared to the countries of the Western Balkans in this domain. This was said today by Saša Leskovac from the Agency for Gender Equality of BiH, presenting the first partial Gender Equality Index of BiH.
A complete Index that measures the level of gender equality in six domains of life (time, money, life, power, knowledge and work) could not be created due to the lack of gender-disaggregated data.
On a scale from 1 to 100 (where 100 points would mean full gender equality), Bosnia and Herzegovina has 58.7 index points in the domain of knowledge, which is 4 less than the EU average. In the “political power” subdomain, BiH has 40.8 points, which is significantly lower than the EU average of 58 index points.
The results of the first Gender Equality Index were presented today at a conference in Sarajevo.
By the way, the Gender Equality Index is a tool for measuring the progress of gender equality in the EU developed by the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE). It gives greater visibility to areas that need improvement and ultimately supports policy makers to design more effective measures for gender equality. The first was published in 2013.
