On April 19, 2023, representatives of the Foundation United Women and the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly held a round table in Gradiška on behalf of the Initiative Peace with Women’s Face, where they presented the previous work, implemented activities and the goal of the Initiative Peace with Women’s Face.
A special focus was placed on the conversation about the creation process of the lexicon “One Hundred Women – One Hundred Streets after Women”, as well as on the results of the street analysis in Gradiška, which was conducted during April 2023. The analysis revealed that the total number of streets in Gradiška is 329. Of that number, only 7.59% or 25 are named after women. It was also discussed about the numerous women who left a mark in the development of the city of Gradiška, and whose importance was not recognized in the official history of the city or was not given the recognition they deserved even though they were pioneers in what they did. One of them is Staka Čubrilović Bokonjić (1884-1954), from the respected Čubrilović family from Gradiška, who was the first female doctor in BiH.
The participants of the round table agreed that in the coming period, they will jointly submit an initiative to the city authorities to name the street after Staka Čubrilović Bokonjić. The initiative will be launched by the Women and Family Association together with the Commission for the Social Position of Women and Gender Equality in the city of Gradiška with the support of the Initiative Peace with Women’s Face.
