Mutual support, help, protection, solidarity and activities will be continued even more intensively in the coming period, it was pointed out at the Third working gathering of the platform for ecofeminist action in Bosnia and Herzegovina EKOFEM BiH, which was held in Banja Luka.
During this two-day conference, on October 13 and 14, interesting topics and ideas were heard, and the experiences of activists from the field were shared.
On Friday, the public lecture of dr. sc. Suzana Marjanić, scientific advisor from the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies in Zagreb, who together with Goran Đurđević edited the extremely important anthology “Ecofeminism: Between Green and Women’s Studies”.
She presented a theoretical cross-section of ecofeminist trends, and stated that they are all connected by the struggle or pointing out discrimination (oppression) against women and nature.
During the discussion, the importance of combining women’s activism and environmental activism, as a type of authentic activism, was highlighted.
In Kruščica, Vlasenica, Jezero, Banja Luka, Tuzla and many other places throughout BiH, it was women who most often started the fight for rivers, forests, clean air and soil and initiated changes. In this way, they stood out as leaders and activists in their communities and contributed to greater equality of women in society, uniting environmental and feminist goals.
The experience of the brave women of Kruščica, whose story has traveled around the world, was emotionally conveyed during the workshop on Saturday by Amela Zukan, who said that when they were questioned during their struggle against the construction of the hydropower plant, who was their organizer or leader, all but one woman/local woman gave the same answer: OUR LEADER IS THE RIVER!
During the second day of the conference, energy democracy, green transformations and ecofeminist perspectives were discussed.
We remind you that EKOFEM BiH is, in short, a platform for ecofeminist activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The aim of the platform is to look at the possibilities of joint action in the field of social care and environmental justice from an ecofeminist perspective in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This third conference in a row was jointly organized by the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Banja Luka and the Association Freedom Front Tuzla.
