Training “Tourism from a Women’s Perspective”, Feminist Tour and Art Workshop Held

The Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Banja Luka organized the training “Tourism from a Women’s Perspective”, a Feminist Tour through Banja Luka and an Art Workshop, and these activities took place from 3 to 5 July in Banja Luka.

The Feminist Tour, through stories about women who lived, worked and created in Banja Luka, completes and enriches the historical presentation of localities in the city and points to the potential and possibilities of tourism development from a women’s perspective.

Women who were significant for the social, political and cultural development of Banja Luka must not be forgotten, nor must women who today create and leave an important mark through art, sports, acting, academic development…

One of our goals is to jointly upgrade the Feminist Tour and make it more attractive for different target groups, while raising awareness about women’s rights and their position in society.

By the way, the existing Fem Tour can also be viewed virtually at: https://prezi.com/p/h92ztsaekibq/embed/.

The training “Tourism from a Women’s Perspective” is designed to deepen the understanding of local activism, tourism, feminism and innovative approaches to tourism development.

Aleksandra Drinić, an educator at this training, among other things, spoke about trends in tourism and new perceptions of tourists/guests, and emphasized that tourist guiding is increasingly being redefined – from a mere transmission of information to an engaged, inclusive and participatory practice.

Tourist guides do not recite facts, but encourage thinking, connect content with visitors’ values and open a dialogue (human rights, natural resources, the position of women, minorities, living and working conditions, etc.)

An Art Workshop with Nina Stanarević, a bookbinder and artist, brought together participants to show their creativity, but also to learn how to create something new with their hands, imagination and recycled materials.

All these activities are free for participants, and are implemented within two projects supported by the Heinrich Böll Foundation and Australian AID.

Similar activities are planned for the coming period and are implemented by the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Banja Luka.
