WORKSHOP “CIRCULAR ECONOMY IS NOT A TREND BUT A NEED” WILL BE HELD ON JUNE 13TH

In April 2025, the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Banja Luka began work on the project “Krojenje pravedne tranzicije“, or in English “Fashioning A Just Transition”, as one of the partner organizations of the international network “Clean Clothes Campaign” which advocates for improving working conditions and workers’ rights in the global fashion and textile industry, with the support of the European Union.

The project aims to raise important topics related to the textile industry, its consequences on the environment and human rights, especially the rights of women workers, young people and children. Through a series of carefully designed activities, where the educators will be experts, we want to inspire changes that lead to a fairer fashion industry.

Activities include:

Youth workshops – participants will have the opportunity to learn and discuss the harmful aspects of the fashion industry, such as textile waste, its impact on climate change, the importance of recycling, sustainable habits and the transition to smarter consumption and circular fashion. The question we ask together: Are we ready to change the way we buy clothes, shoes and treat the planet?

The first workshop will be held in Banja Luka on June 13, from 5 to 7 p.m., and the educator is Milica Končar, an expert in the field of circular economy.

Next up:

“Women’s Conversations” with textile industry employees, where we will have the opportunity to hear authentic stories from women working in this sector, thus opening up a space for understanding the challenges they face and the need for economic and social justice.

Advocacy and Networking – The project will involve key stakeholders in society: journalists, influencers, eco and feminist organizations, unions, schools and decision-makers. Our goal is to create a common approach to addressing the challenges regarding this topic in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Why is this project important?

The textile industry is one of the world’s largest polluters. Our project places a strong emphasis on raising awareness about its role in the climate crisis, but also on the need to transition to green, sustainable technologies. By promoting responsible consumption, changing fashion habits, recycling and reusing clothes, we are working to shape a future in which social justice and the protection of the planet are equally important.

“Fashioning A Just Transition” supports the idea of a just transition and together we are shaping a fashion industry that respects people and the environment.
