Trade unionists introduced to the importance of the “Fashioning A Just Transition” project

The representative of the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly held a meeting with Danko Ružičić, President of the Trade Union of Textile, Leather and Shoe Industry Workers of the RS where she introduced him to the activities and significance of the project “Fashioning A Just Transition” that we are implementing.

The project aims to raise important issues related to the textile industry, its impact on the environment and human rights, especially the rights of women workers and young people. Through a series of carefully designed activities, we want to inspire changes that lead to a fairer fashion industry, both for employees and for the environment.

At a meeting with Danko Ružičić, who is also the General Secretary of the Confederation of Trade Unions of the RS, we discussed the position of workers in the textile, leather and footwear industry, collective agreements, challenges, developments in legal solutions, upcoming steps… The Confederation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Srpska is the largest umbrella trade union organization in the Republic of Srpska.

We want to include key stakeholders in society in the project as support: media, organizations, unions, educational institutions, decision-makers and others.

Our goal is to create a common approach to solving challenges related to this topic in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In April 2025, the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly began work on the project “Fashioning A Just Transition”, as one of the partner organizations of the international network “Clean Clothes Campaign”, which advocates for improving working conditions and workers’ rights in the global fashion and textile industry, with the support of the European Union.
