“Women’s conversations” held with female workers at the company “Gloria Line”

“Women’s conversations” in the textile industry, on the topic of “How to Create a Fairer Fashion Future”, were held on August 29 with employees of the company “Gloria Line”.

During the conversations, which are part of the activities within the project “Fashioning A Just Transition”, we presented this project, but we also heard first-hand experiences of working and doing business in the textile industry. The employees were from different sectors, from production, sales to administration.

We talked about social justice, economic empowerment, changing fashion habits, trends, recycling, circular fashion, green transition, etc.

Together, we discussed current issues and challenges in the textile industry, and this industry is mostly employed by women.

Some of our interviewees have been working in this company for more than 20 years, and some came right after graduating from secondary vocational school and found their first job in this very factory that produces socks.

“Gloria Line” was founded 30 years ago as a family business with the aim of offering a quality, yet affordable product made in the local community.

In April 2025, the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly began work on the project “Fashioning A Just Transition” as one of the partner organizations of the international network “Clean Clothes Campaign”.

The project aims to raise important issues concerning the textile industry.

Through a series of activities, we want to inspire changes that lead to a fairer textile and fashion industry, tailored to people and the environment.
