Meeting with the deputy president of the Committee on Gender Equality: initiate SEXUAL EXTORTION into laws

The concept of sexual extortion needs to be recognized in the laws in BiH and there is a need to initiate this, it was jointly concluded at the meeting that was held today, March 25, with Rejhana Dervišević, the deputy president of the Committee on Gender Equality in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, member of the House of Representatives of the PA BiH and member of the Joint Commission for Human Rights.

The representative of the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Banja Luka introduced the MP to the campaign “Sexual Extortion is Corruption. Let’s Break the Silence”, goals as well as previous research and Analysis of regulations regarding sexual extortion.

Although sexual extortion, as a combination of sexual harassment (from a position of power, authority…) and corruption, occurs in both the public and private sectors, this socially unacceptable phenomenon has not yet been formally and legally introduced into the laws of BiH.

The campaign “Sexual Extortion is Corruption. Let’s Break the Silence!” is part of the project “Citizens in the Fight against Silent Corruption”.
